We all know Monkey Gone Mad's strengths lie in the creativity and awesomeness of their original songs. But what about the ways they took the occasional cover song and made it into their own? We're not expecting many responses to this one as most of you haven't seen their performance of many covers, but maybe a few band members will mention their favorites as well. Here's a list off the top of my head of a few covers MGM has done over the past 8 years (in somewhat chronological order)...
"Take On Me"- Aha
"Paint It Black"- Rolling Stones
"Blah Blah Blah"- Perfect Thyroid
"No Face"- Suicide Machines
"Hey"- Suicide Machines
"High School"- The Skalars
"Ma & Pa"- Fishbone
"Phoenix City"- The Skatellites
"Hey Ya"- Outkast
"Here We Go Again"- Operation Ivy
"I Am The Walrus"- Beatles
"Time Of My Life"- Bill Medley
I knew of all of the acts before, but MGM's covers really got me into bands like Fishbone, Op IV, and the Suicide Machines. I guess my personal favorites are "I Am The Walrus", "Here We Go Again", and "Time of My Life". All of which MGM took an already great song and made it so much better. What about the rest of you? What was your favorite? Do you remember any songs I missed? Let us know! |

i've enjoyed most of them, but i've really enjoyed "i'm the walrus" lately.
i like "here we go again"...it also has some of jay z's "what more can i say?" in it... which is actually just a sample of "something for nothing" by mfsb. so you get this ska/core/hiphop/70s soul mix type thing. very cool.
the arrangement of "time of my life" is really cool. arya singing "hey ya" was great, i love how he sensored some stuff that wasn't so mgm-ish. |

"Dance to the Music" was pretty sweet. "Hey" was super cool. "Blah Blah Blah" was great, except for that solo I always murdered. |

Now we can add "Heard It Through The Grapevine" for songs MGM has covered as well. |
