So like we said before, Monkey Gone Mad's strengths lie in the creativity and awesomeness of their original songs. But the way they do covers is pretty darn cool too. What cover songs do you think MGM would do an amazing job at, that they haven't done yet?

I started to put together a list, everyone should definitely add their own, including band members. And hey- you might suggest a song that the band will end up playing!

"Unified"- G Love. G Love doesn't play much ska, but this is a good one... fun guitar effects, and the positive message that fits right in with MGM's style.

"How Have You Been"- Ani Difranco. Perhaps Ani's funkiest song, with a horn section, and really crazy tight/difficult parts, a cover that only a band like MGM could do justice.

"Family Guy Theme"- Walter Murphy. I wouldn't expect the band to sing this, but the instrumental version would make a great interlude, it's a fun song, and A LOT of MGM fans are also Family Guy fans.

"Monkeys"- Mad Caddies. Crazy fun dixieland ska... plus the name is "Monkeys"!

"Sir Duke"- Stevie Wonder. Those at the shows last weekend heard the band cover the riff from this song. How bout the whole thing?

"Over Seasons"- Authority Zero. Just a great ska-punk song that I can't get enough of, and I have a feeling seeing MGM play it will only make it better.

"Combustible"- Rustic Overtones. No idea what it would sound like with Ian on vocals for this song, as the vocals are nothing like his, but I'm sure it would be nothing short of great. The driving bass is just asking for Jay's handiwork.

"City Lights"- Lucky Boys Confusion. When I first got the "Throwing The Game" disc back in '01, this song reminded me a lot of MGM and always though MGM could do a great version of it. Not so sure how it fits in with their style today, but I don't care. It's still on my list :)

I'm sure I'll come up with more... but in the mean time... your turn!

one of the most covered songs of all time would be classic if done by mgm- "desperado" by the eagles. i've always thought the song would sound good with horns playing the intro and being made over to be upbeat.

Either You Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon (I know, cliche... maybe Graceland instead) or Fuck Wit Dre Day by Dr. Dre. I always wanted to do a ska-punk version of that with my high school bands. Double time the verse then break it down into regular time for the chorus. It'll get people jumpin'!

99 Red Balloons by Nena .. I mean seriously, it's just a damn rad song that you guys can totally do.

Do it, you know you want to.

Cover "So Lonely" by the police. A reggae/ska version would be great by MGM.

This is pretty random, but something I've wanted to cover for a while is Ease On Down the Road from The Wiz. I don't think I have the Michael Jackson vocal chops, but we'd figure something out. I'm really digging most of the suggestions so far. Keep 'em coming.

wow, these are great!

i love all the 80s suggestions...

i especially enjoy the two people who each suggested a gangster rap classic and a relatively benign pop classic.

tighten up would certainly make for a good interlude or chance to introduce band members.

good call on all the ska/reggae covers!

DUDES! whom i love and adore.... i must give an honest suggestion that i hope you take to heart. "Barbie Girl" by Aqua is a crackhead classic and EVERYONE knows it as the nasty song that it is, but MGM could make it nastily COOL. i know it will never happen because you guys have taste, but just think about it. p.s. oh! What about a Frank Sinatra tune!

Covers.... hmmmm....

I am totally for "The Right Stuff" by New Kids on the Block. Or even "Step by Step" since we all know what each of the steps are!

Also, I am thinking a Hall and Oates song. Any of them, really. They rule! Maybe some "Private Eyes"...

I told Ian about my dream about the cover band, so I would also like to suggest anything by Color Me Badd or Bel Biv Devoe. Thank you and good night!

color me bad - i want to sex you up
boys II men - motownphilly
abd - playground (or maybe iesha)

ooooh, how about a 70s AM gold medley

hall and oates - sarah smile
player - baby come back
america - ventura highway
seals and crofts - summer breeze (shout out to the baha'is)
looking glass - brandy
king harvest - dancing in the moonlight

This will be a good outlet for everytime I hear a song that I think MGM could do a slick cover of, so now I'll add "You're Only Human" by Billy Joel. And actually while I'm at it, I bet the band could do a sweet version of Ember Swift's "Include My Food", perhaps a fitting B-Side to the hit singe "Ian Don't Eat Meat". I actually spoke to Ember a few years ago where she was saying that she loves it when other acts cover her songs, and if any live recordings happen, to send them her way.

I'm pretty sure world peace would break out if you put "Ninja Rap" into your hip hop medley.....just so you know.

How about an Ozomatli tune? Most people wouldn't recognize it, but everything of theirs is practically written for MGM (trumpet-playing vocalists, anyone?). And you're one of the few bands anywhere that could actually pull it off.

I'm thinking something off their first CD. Like Cumbia de los Muertos

So I agree with Lua Ninja Rap would make the world pretty peaceful, but what would make total world peace would be if mgm covered Chris Ruhe's birthday song

over the years, I've seen a whole bunch of killer covers, but what might be fun is to try on "Keep on Pumpin'" by Ray Brown, or "a go-go", by John Scofield. In the solos, each mamber, or just specifics could shine out a self written solo rather than keeping it straight. What do you think?

I think Arya would really like it if you guys covered Soul Survivor by Akon and Young Jeezy

owen, that's cool that you mentioned "a-go-go", cause i actually played that with a jazz/funk band i had in college, randomly enough, on a show that featured arya on guitar.
