We've kind of been doing an informal survey since the CD release to try to figure out what songs people like the best. This can be the official survey. We want as much feedback as possible. It will be used for things like which songs to push to radio, to see what side of MGM people like best, and just as a public display for ourselves and fans to see what others think. It's an open forum, you don't need to log-in or anything to post. If you don't have the CD yet, you can at least listen to and vote on the seven songs posted on our songs page. And feel free to comment on why you like a particular song. We love feedback!

I'll get things going. The whole album is so good, but here's my top 5-
1) "Thank You"- I still sometimes get a little misty-eyed at the end
2) "Simple Mathematics"- Rock!
3) "L'Ange"- Perhaps a little too crazy for radio, but there's no better groove to get you skanking than the ska verse in this song.
4) "You Can Lie"- Has sweetness written all over it. It's also a good song to lip sync to your sister to weird her out.
5) "Goodbye Grey Skies"- Originally written by Jeff for his old high school ska band, add in a little Rafalak (Jay's bass intro, and Ian's crazy cool horn breakdown ending) and you've got one hell of a ditty.

Man that's a toughie..

Thank You

The bass fills in perfectly when there are no vocals and is a great backup when there are. Classic ska-tar, works great in this song, and the high-hat tap on the bridge and chorus does so much to drive the song. Plus the lyrics are amazing. And Ian's voice is sex.

Firstly I'd like to note that this album is similar to Bob Marley's "Legend" in the sense that its best listened to from start to finish, and repeat . But for the sake of survey's...
1)Goodbye Grey Skies
2)Thank You
3)Right Now
4)Reggae People
5)Ian Don't Eat Meat (secret song track 16)

5) You Can Lie (I love Kate's voice and I love the flow)
4) Ian Don't Eat Meat (Sean Rowe rules)
3) Simple Mathematics (This song rocks hard)
2) Right Now (Good message, good flow, good beats, fun to sing along to)
1) Thank You (I love the message, it makes me think of my dad)

Hey kids! I'm going to have to agree that the whole album is phenomenal, so I have more than one favorite.

1. Thank You - I get all teared up. I just love it.
2. Right Now
3. You Can Lie
4. Reggae People
5. Up and Down

As a whole the album just blows me away. Everything is so good and all of it is so positive. You don't see that much these days. *high five* I believe Monkey Gone Mad will bring about world peace. But only if they get an A on their history report!

I like Thank You because it's the first song I heard by MGM and it brings back special memories. But after that I like Simple Mathematics, then Reggae People, You Can Lie and L'Ange.

ok, so here's my 5 favorite songs from "Skunk With a Porpoise" (in no particular order):

1. Jumbalaya
2. The B-Flat Song
3. California Van Song (the classic version)
4. Feel Big
5. Empty (hands down my favorite song by Heath and Brendog about graduating high school)

(ok, sorry, that was corny)

and here's my 5 favorites from "Listen...":

1. Thank You (i love paddy's part, its probably my favorite thing on the album, i would get goose bumps when i first heard it)
2. Right Now (i think we made some pretty authentic sounding hip-hop with basically all live instrumentation; check out how kate's singing on the bridge gets flipped as a sample in the rest of the song)
3. L'Ange (Arya wrote basically this entire song, chords and lyrics, while he was at work without an instrument in front of him)
4. Listen (i think it makes a great intro the album, and kind of sets the tone that its not gonna be your average ska-punk album)
5. You Can Lie/Simple Mathematics

thanks everybody for your nice comments and feedback!

I'd have to say that Thank You is my favorite. And then Reggae People because I've had that stuck in my head ever since 'BER played it on the local show.

There, now I actually did it and didn't just think about it =)

OK, my faves:

1.) "Ian Don't Eat Meat": Brendog's guitar tone underscores the title with its beefy mids as it announces "I am cow, hear me roar". I also love how Brendan puts down the guitar to go to Subway, only to strap it back on in the nick of time to do some bovine-proportioned bends. And man, Sean Rowe, if you ever read this, you are it! Barry White who? A man who can deliver a fervent treatise to anyone hanging a cowbell around their neck has got funk in the trunk for days!

2.) "You Can Lie": Kate is too good. If P Diddy gets within 10 yards of this song with a sampler, grrrr.

3.) "Thank You": Hmm, hard to explain why songs are good; sometimes, they just are. Yeah, the lyrics are great here, the music is nice, the ending is amazing, but to paraphrase Zappa, talking about music is like dancing around architecture. Then again, he also said that rock journalism is people who can't write who interview people who can't play music for people who can't read, so take it all with a generous heaping of salt. Perhaps, I'm biased, but people will try and catch up to what Ian is doing in this song years from now and still not get it.

4.) "Right Now": Badi is so talented, it is unreal. There is also the Kate factor.

5.) "Listen": Perhaps intros shouldn't count, but I really dig this not only as a great way of setting up the vibe of the album (totally agree w/Jay on this), but as a piece in and of itself. As a general rule, horns rock (Kenny G and Boney James aside)!

Hands down, "Right Now" really has a feel good vibe and has the hip hop hook going which I feel would blow you guys right out from the underground... Great production and mix of live instrumentation make this song a winner plus the positive message that hip hop REALLY needs RIGHT NOW... So go and DO IT, you mad monkeys!!!

Great stuff overall, though...
